Bridging the Generation Gap Workshop:
This workshop is designed to bring elders and youth together to open dialogue on the issue of racism through which they come up with inter-generational ways of combating racism on a micro and macro scale. We aim to promote multiculturalism and diversity where we disolve common cultural stigmas.
The workshops are delivered by Elders from 411 Seniors Centre Society for youth ages 15-25. There are various locations throughout Vancouver in Richmond, East Van, Burnaby, and North Vancouver between November 2-10, so sign up now as there is limited space!
If you are interested in participating or require further information please contact Catherine at 604.684.8171 ext 231 or ceagles@411seniors.bc.ca

The fourth annual Homelessness Action Week is coming up October 11 - 17. This year add your voice to the call for a national, affordable housing strategy at www.stophomelessness.ca.
Four Metro Vancouver mayors including Surrey mayor and council are supporting this intiative.
Also, check out the calendar pages on the website to see what is happening in your community. Volunteers are needed for Project Homeless Connect events.
Vancity staff really stepped up to the plate in 2008 and volunteered at Connect events in Surrey and Vancouver. In case you missed it, here is a link to the video Kate made in Surrey last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc1ctmQfjYA
Here are two wonderful organizations I am involved with and two wonderful ways you can support them both to promote food security in Vancouver!
1. Food For Families Food Bank
I love this organization for three reasons as Food For Families:
ο Offers food only to families with children
ο Provides nutritious food (no junk food and as much fresh food as possible)
ο Gives healthy recipes related to the food given, access to a nutritionist and a community kitchen
2. NOW BC Buying Co-op:
It's kind of like an organic food delivery service, except it is a Co-Op and the food gets delivered to a neighbour of ours and we pick it up. THE FOOD IS AWESOME!
Two Ways to Support both FOOD FOR FAMILIES and NOW BC
1. Join me at this fun food event!
NOW BC presents Savour with Neighbours: a community potluck to raise funds for Food For Families Food Bank (part of CityReach Care Society in East Van).
Live Music! Fun for kids! Raffle! Prizes for best potluck dishes!
Wednesday, May 20
6-10pm
Heritage Hall (15th and Main)
Suggested donation: $10
2. If you buy food from NOW BC, you can make a donation to Food For Families on their web site and the money will be used to buy food from NOW BC - thus supporting both organizations!
This is a blog about being alert as citizens to actions we can take to influence politicians and decision makers to think long term, and keep the common good in mind as they do their job.
