I'm opting out of using teflon in my house in exchange for cast iron cookware and stainless steel. At first I was daunted by the inaccessibility to quality, inexpensive alternative cookware but have since found great items in Chinatown and local kitchen shops. It is possible and quite easy if you just make the effort to find these things...
Stainless steel and castiron can be easy to clean and non-stick with proper cleaning and cooking techniques... Teflon problems can be reduced by the same. Cooking properly and not scrubbing pots and pans so the coating of teflon flakes off... If it has started to, throw them out and get new pans.
This is a simple change I can implement right here in my home.
