Last Sunday night, a sold-out crowd at the Arts Club Granville Island Stage gave a rousing standing ovation to Stand Up For Mental Health's Class of 2008, in their debut performance.

I remember spending most of Grade 2 standing in the corner, in Miss Carscadden's class. Was the adoring fall guy for the class comedian, Keith Fairley. My laughter at Keith's childish jokes really irritated the teacher, and always got a "your nuttier than a fruitcake" from Keith. It was burning shame and Nirvana both at once.

 When comedian Mike MacDonald was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder 12 years ago, his first worry was whether it would impact his comedy career.

It really does beat a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. According to researcher Nicole Chovil PhD., making people laugh is indeed good medicine.
