I have been inspired by the positive change and empowering work of the people of Vancity for years. The list of contributions and incredibly valuable innovations that Vancity is directly responsible for is huge – not the least of which is unending support and help to build the Co-operative Auto Network.
Compassion and Kindness is my passion. As an artist, I often come in touch with a lot of perspectives that heightens my awareness of my surroundings, society, people and other living beings. I like to help create a more compassionate and kinder community locally and internationally that is self-sustainable.
Every year tens of millions of sharks are killed because of finning, the cruel practice of slicing off a shark's valuable fins for soup and tossing the body back to sea alive. Sharkwater is amust-see documentary about the situation.
We are hosting Vancouver’s only Big Balls Soccer game this Saturday, June 20th. 2:00 p.m. @ English Bay, the park across the street from the Sylvia hotel. Think of it as a flashmob pick-up soccer game played with over-sized balls, just for fun.
The stakes are low, the balls are big and everyone is invited to play. Big Balls soccer is in support of KidStart.
KidStart recruits and trains caring adults to coach vulnerable kids through the game of life.

You are invited to Be The Change that
Earth and all beings are calling for.
Our global ecological crisis
compels us to change our present course. Join with other concerned citizens to
co-create a sustainable, just and fulfilling human presence on this planet and
discover what it is to Be The Change.
The Be The Change Symposium is a
visually rich and inspiring response to climate change. Multi-media clips from
Desmond Tutu, Brian Swimme, Maude Barlow, Julia Butterfly Hill, Paul Hawken, and
other global leaders in social change reveal the nature of our predicament --
and an enlivening vision of our emerging future.
An interactive process
helps us confront today's sobering realities and empowers us to take personal
and collective action. Be The Change Circles provide the lively, community based
support we all need to shed old habits, make new lifestyle choices and spark
significant social change.
Come to a symposium this June, before summer
hiatus, and join the Be The Change circles arising in our community for ongoing
support.
The time to act is now. Act big, act small, but
act.
"I was so moved by the day that I've been talking it up to everybody I
know, having as light a footprint as possible, and reeling with the
possibilities of how far it could go."
- Carla
Rieger
Symposium Participant Registration: $50
for full day workshop
$25 for students, seniors and
low-wage
All proceeds support the non-profit work

As a new parent, entering the world of Preschool has opened my eyes to the many choices available in education for toddlers. I never knew there where that many choices. How and what to choose?
I never expected to do so much critiqing of the media, but accurate, in-depth and balanced coverage is so important to creating the changes needed and there is so much bad reporting that I find I must wage a campaign for good reporting/editing in order to achieve the changes I wish to bring about.
As one would expect, people being people, several of them went out of their way to bring the less than complimentary article in the February 22 2007 UCFV Cascade about the Salvation Army to my attention. They seemed very disappointed by my reaction “The future of journalism is sooooooo dim!!”
Just a quick update that I'd also like to share. One of the things I felt called to act upon this year was to begin providing a venue and opportunity for entrepreneurs who are looking to experience business and working relationships that honors their values.
I'm pleased to announce that last week a small group of us met for the first time, and the vision I proposed for this collaborative endeavour has been well-received. We are continuing to build this as an organic grassroots movement in order to maintain the integrity and vision of the intention that inspired its' birth.
