EnviroWoman is a visual animal. Sometimes understanding the magnitude of numbers overwhelms her. Just how many is 500 billion plastic bags anyway? (the number consumed worldwide every year)
Well, Chris Jordan has come to the rescue…without even knowing who EnviroWoman is.
His Running the Numbers photographs give EnviroWoman visual understanding of the magnitude of our addiction with not only plastic but also office paper, paper bags, cigarettes, cell phones and more.
Very cool stuff. EnviroWoman hopes you check it out.
As you may know, although the provincial NDP has been raising some good questions regarding the Port Mann Bridge and Highway 1 expansion - they have not taken a firm position against it, for fear of losing voters in Surrey. This stands in contrast to the strong position they took in opposition to the proposed coal fired power plants in Princeton and Tumbler Ridge - which they have raised repeatedly, and which seem to be in serious jeopardy now.
Gary Tang and I joined the hundreds of people at the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Assn fundraiser at Ridge Theatre in Kits. VEVA was showing its 1917 Detroit Electric car and there were other electric cars, but imho, only Gordon Wong's e-car was equal to a gasoline-burning (internal combustion engine, or ICE) car. The others were weak, or lacked durability -- one got wet, and had to be towed. However, a good point about joining the Car Co-op was stated, during the after-movie panel discussions: Use an e-car or ebike to get to a Car Co-op location, and rent the coop's car only for the few hours that long-range driving is needed. To me, that makes good sense.

Last year KDWTJ' covered topics from climate change to caribou, from salmon farming to the spotted owl, from bottom trawling to toxins. See how these topics and more have progressed into the New Year. If you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. That's what <
Being a motorcyclist for close to 15 years now, I felt I had to comment too. I agree that "hogs" or any other bike with a loud exhaust is obnoxious if used as a "noise pollution" device in our environment. These few make the rest of us bikers look bad.
As an avid biker, I am careful with how I ride my bike in high-density community areas. After all, I live in one too. The vast majority of bikers are careful with how they ride in and around high-density housing , but unfortunately, there are a few who purposely seem to get a kick out of creating "noise pollution" in the environment as they pass through like a tornado...
