Support Local Artistic Talent, Particularly in Media Arts

I would like to encourage support of our Youth, and Students in the Arts, particularly in Film and Media. Vancouver is termed "Hollywood North", and yet there is limited funding and support for initiatives in this area. Imagine if Kevin Smith, who produced "Clerks", and his blockbuster sequels, after dropping out of Vancouver Film School, had received some support that allowed him to keep his production local. Vancouver would have reaped the benefits, as would any supporter, with their logo on the film at the festivals.
It's good business, and good for our community.
This is not a mandate, but a hope, a dream..

Support the Tyee Fellowship and Fund Independent, Investigative Journalism in BC!

The Tyee is fundraising to create four Investigative and Reporting Fellowships, grants we give to journalists to finance in-depth analysis of important issues in BC. Previous Tyee Fellowships have broken major stories, empowered citizens, and won national awards. They've uncovered dangerously inadequate dams on the Fraser River, argued for cheap public transit, explored the possibilities for improving our schools, brilliantly advocated for toxic-free job sites, and have chronicled the local urban farming revolution. Once we've raised the money - we have $3,500 to go and eight days left to find it - journalists can apply by proposing their ideas, which will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges. Anyone who donates to the Fellowship can suggest ideas and be entered to win one of three fantastic prizes. Visit http://thetyee.ca/About/Donate/ to help fund fiesty, fresh, investigative journalism in BC!

If you find yourself saying, somebody should… then someone probably should – and that someone should be you!
The recent Got Hats project generated several volunteers and saw over 4,000 items of warmth collected from members of the community and delivered to shelters in the Downtown Eastside. We have chosen it as an example to share some ideas with you to help you make your own change happen.

24/Metro

make fun of stuff more

the sad thing is is that these daily puplications, 24, Metro, really are very high quality publications. in find them to be a great source of concise information about the really important things going on. the things we need to be paying attention to. Hilary duff is being stalked? oh. my. god. come'on people, the question we all need to be asking is, "what can I do?" seriously. p diddy never loved j.lo? what? WHAT? tragic. simply tragic. 23 pages with which to keep me informed, and a chocolate festival and an earthquake in hawaii make the cut. hmm. seems, just maybe, bear with me here, that there might be more pressing news to report. i know i'm going out there on that one. i've been called a bit of a radical before.
