Just over two years ago we here at Vancity conducted a social experiment: we wanted to know what would happen if we chose to spend some of our marketing dollars a little differently with a view to combining our marketing efforts with community building.
As I sit here perched, semi Buddha-like, in a 1/16 lotus position (I sprained my back playing frisbee), I contemplate the billions of magical, whirling, atomic universes within all of my multi-faceted, inter-dimensional bodies.
Suddenly I am completely underwhelmed by the sheer nonsensical nature of all Life.
I want to recognize each step as I take and each person I see as potential for magic and growth to occur, be it helping out by saying the right word someone needs to hear, or divine intervention, or being the one helped. I want each day and each moment to be a gift appreciated.
a while ago i participated in something called Project Connect, an event that brings together a whole lot of services available to homeless people in our community, in one place for one day. there were dentists, barbers. people advising on affordable housing, and hot meals - not to mention the smiles and love.
