Over the last month I have been tending a whole caboodle of seed starts for the spring fling. What I've learned so far is how to make newspaper pots for seedlings, that I should have started many of the seedlings a lot sooner and I may invest in some grow lamps for the fall.
There's nothing better than knowing you've done something good that will impact others lives in a positive way. ChangeEverything, made that difference for us when we found out we had won second place for the 2008 resolution contest. It helped us further develop our website and look for products to sell that could financially support our cause.
It was great to see and get the support of friends, family and the unknown supporters for our cause in the 2008 resolution contest. Second place, not to shabby and the winnings have been spent of course, before it has arrived. If you have visited the site lately you will see some new things coming, cool and stylish aprons and cooking kits for kids and more.
To eat local food is to be self-sufficient, good for us, good for local farmers, saves transportation costs and it creates a personal relationship with the food that nourishes my body.
When: Starting April 22. 10:30 am to 1:30 pm- maybe longer. Plus the following 3 Sundays.
Where: MOBY gardens. 11th ave just east of Commercial Dr.
Why: We need to build a cob shed. Plus we want to meet our neighbours. It is fun and a bit dirty. Kids love it. This is a sustainable building technique.
What: Building a cob shed with a living green roof. Mixing clay, straw, sand and water- mashing it with our feet.
City Farmer has made this map/list of those who are both looking for space to garden, and those offering garden space. If you don’t see a suitable partner, add yourself to the list and wait for a call. Keep checking back to see if a match turns up. Well done!
I have a system that allows people to do composting indoors using friendly microbes to ferment your organic matter. There is no spoiling, no bad smells and no flies, so it is ideal for apartment/condo dwellers. It is scalable too. My website is http://www.greatday.ca
I just read a post on this site by Sunflower, who wants to green her home. I love this idea, and I hope people know about the Learn section we have on this site, we have a section all about how to green your home.
I especially love the living roof idea, if anybody out there has tips or DIY instructions for how to make a living roof or container gardening (for those of us in apartments) Please post them to this site and I will add them to the Learn section!
