Help Plant 1000 Trees

My first attempt to poster the town was disappointing. It rained and all my outdoor posters basically melted. Fortunately, I was able to find several shops that provide public notice boards.

This month we are hosting the 3rd annual Naught Noses Gala evening to raise money for Jest For Joy Clown-Doctoring foundation.

We aim to raise $10,000 on the night (28th Jan if you are available - it's at the River Rock Casino to make it easy to get to). Music by Micheal Creber, Comedy from Greg Kettner, silent and live auctions, food, bar, charity balckjack. It's going to be a fun evening.

I just joined the board of the charity Jest for Joy. They provide Clown Doctoring for long term adult in-patients. They go in once a week and sing songs and make the staff and residents laugh and brighten their day. This has been proven to help not only the mood but also the effectiveness of some treatments.

Support the Tyee Fellowship and Fund Independent, Investigative Journalism in BC!

The Tyee is fundraising to create four Investigative and Reporting Fellowships, grants we give to journalists to finance in-depth analysis of important issues in BC. Previous Tyee Fellowships have broken major stories, empowered citizens, and won national awards. They've uncovered dangerously inadequate dams on the Fraser River, argued for cheap public transit, explored the possibilities for improving our schools, brilliantly advocated for toxic-free job sites, and have chronicled the local urban farming revolution. Once we've raised the money - we have $3,500 to go and eight days left to find it - journalists can apply by proposing their ideas, which will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges. Anyone who donates to the Fellowship can suggest ideas and be entered to win one of three fantastic prizes. Visit http://thetyee.ca/About/Donate/ to help fund fiesty, fresh, investigative journalism in BC!

If you thought Twitter was just for inane memes and eye-rolling self-promotion ("Just met with a terribly important person and they were terribly impressed with me!"), have a look at the Twestival phenomenon.

Get local business involved in contributing financially to local charitable causes

Local businesses should participate in local causes - they can make small but significant changes. Think of the advertising they do - can they not pick a company that focuses on eco-printing? Can they not donate to a charity to have their logo displayed there, instead of on another company's billboard? The list goes on...
