Here was the environmental footprint of the Christmas card in 2005, according to the UK government:
One billion Christmas cards, weighing 20,000 tonnes and equivalent in volume to at least 20 Olympic sized swimming pools, will end up as waste this Christmas.
That's only the tip of the (rapidly melting) iceberg. Consider the energy involved in transporting those cards to a billion addresses – energy expended all the more inefficiently because postal services have to ramp up each year for a huge surge in mail, and then ramp back down again.
When I took my coaches training, a particular subject area related to "What's hard to be with?" Often times, we human-beings in our need to be right, or loved, or even simply liked all the time means that we fail to stick-to-it when the going gets tough. I, too, have often been guilty of the same behavior in my life. One place you often find yourself not doing that though, is in a relationship that you've already invested a lot of emotional energy into. So what about the rest of life and other relationships?
I am a woman and I see how much I have struggled to love and express myself and I know other women are struggling with this too. I want to empower women to honour and embrace themselves!!!
I realised today that I am encouraging people to check out this site, but that I haven't actually commited to posting anything on it. So - today's the day. I think I'll start off my activities by inviting all my friends to join this site.
I'm thinking of re-starting the conversation cafe meetings that I used to attend.
a few years ago, there used to be 'convesation cafe/ meetings twice a month, wherein people would come together to discuss, in a structured format, a pre-chosen topic about our community and/or ourselves.
I am thinking of doing it monthly to start, in the evening, maybe on Tuesdays. I would accept topic choices, and provide guidelines for participation.
