Compassion and Kindness is my passion. As an artist, I often come in touch with a lot of perspectives that heightens my awareness of my surroundings, society, people and other living beings. I like to help create a more compassionate and kinder community locally and internationally that is self-sustainable.

Kate Buried in Socks From Last Year's Campaign

The first snow of 2010 came two days ago spreading across the Lower Mainland. Like many people, I was ecstatic to see the flurry whites. However, as happy as I can be, I am also reminded of many others who are currently homeless and houseless (as said by good o' George Carlin) who might have a lot more trouble this season if the predictions of a harsh winter come true - especially their feet.

The areas in which tea is produced are some of the most beautiful in the world, but also some of the poorest. The contrast between wide mountain panoramas with luscious green tea fields and the sometimes miserable conditions for workers and smallholders can be striking.

What Can You do?
Go beyond the passive role of a consumer, take an interest in those that produce our tea, how they produce it & the problems they face in doing so.

For the last two years, with the help of kind donations, a group of us served Christmas dinner to residents of the downtown eastside using a film industry craft service. This year, we were able to serve turkey with all the fixings to over 340 residents.

Today was the halfway party for TEAM IN TRAINING. GOOO TEAM! Our training of course starts at Granville Island. It's great to see a lot of family and friends of runners out to support us. My wonderful boyfriend did in fact come out to support me, not only at a water station, but to run with me as well!

A feel good card!

Urban Project is a non-profit society dedicated to promoting employment, education and safer living opportunities for disadvantaged youth in urban locations throughout the world.

As a vehicle for redistributing funds, our goal is to engage youth in artistic projects that are enriching and empowering experiences for everyone involved.

All funds raised are used to support one youth-focused project in a specific urban location.

In 2008/2009, Urban Project plans to partner with Giant Ant Media on a film and music making project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

We live in a brainwashed society. Just look anywhere and you'll see ads. Consume, consume, consume. Democracy is reduced to a pacifying term. (were you asked to vote re: our troops going to Afghanistan? Cutbacks to seniors programs, mental health?) Capitalism doesn't work unless someone is exploited. Frankly I'm sick of  living for self and I'd like to see people worse off than me get a "no strings" break
