If you've ever been on Commercial Drive during a festival where the drive is closed to cars, you'll have experienced one of the most enjoyable communities in Vancouver and beyond.
Nice work Rob! Your posting reminded me of the coolest gift a brother-in-law just got for his parents.
His parents had their old bikes in storage for eons. Never even thought about using them. Being the crafty chap that my brother-in-law is, he stole his parents bikes from them at Christmas time, brought them to his house, and totally fixed up their old bikes. New chains, repainted, greased, cleaned, he even researched where you can by old bike stickers (like Free Style, Raleigh, etc.). He gave his folks back their bikes on their anniversary and they hadn't even noticed they were missing. Now his parents are biking regularly and love it!
I used to be quite a good biker, both mountain and road. Never really great, but pretty good, and I was happy. But ever since I got older, and got married, I have just become a total slug. I really need to just get out more, come home from work and just get on the bike! That is the life I want. And who knows I might start bike commuting too, I take transit everyday right now so I feel like I am doing my part for the environment, but what about zero-emissions?
Well I am happy to report that I am biking again! I actually went out and bought myself a new mountain bike and this has given me the motivation to get back out there. I like mountain biking because you get a workout and don't even notice it becuase you are having so much fun. I will continue to update this blog as I discover new things.
A couple years ago, I borrowed my girlfriend's bike and zipped around for a few minutes. It had been years since I had ridden one. I was hooked (again). The memories of tearing around various campsites as I was growing up came flooding back.
I started out biking everyday to and from work and really really enjoyed every second of it... That is until my bike got stolen. I'm hoping to pick it up again as soon as I can find a new bike...
I'm a recently converted bike junkie who committed to Bike to Work week and now does it everyday!! I even decided to forego my bus pass in exchange for the benefits I get from biking regularly!
I have always loved biking, since I was a kid and it meant freedom, to explore my neighbourhood, to find new hiding places, to try and see if I could make that jump off the curb, usually with a resulting skinned knee. As I got older I graduated to faster and more expensive bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes.
