how does the Vancity Bike Share work?
We have the bikes. We want you to ride them. And pass them on to someone else. Simple right? Almost.
We do have a couple of recommendations and requests to help this experiment on its way.
• Only keep the bike for a maximum of three weeks. Other people might want to take it for a ride.
• Pass it on. Find someone that wants the bike as much as you did.
• Write about your experiences on ChangeEverything.ca – let your community know your thoughts, your ups and your downs while bringing cycling into your life.
• If your bike breaks down, bring it to any Vancity branch or the Vancity Centre at 183 Terminal Ave. for a tune up.
• We ask that whoever has the bikes on September 7, return them to a branch or to Vancity Centre at 183 Terminal Ave. Let’s finish our experiment off with a bang and see how many bikes we can get back.
Vancity Bike Share bikes have been registered with the Vancouver Police Department’s ‘Operation Provident’ to try and prevent theft and resale.
When the bikes are returned to Vancity we will be donating them to PEDAL (Pedal Energy Development Alternatives), a local non-profit concerned with pedal powered technology. PEDAL provides low cost, reliable transportation (bicycles) to low-income communities and individuals. We'll pass the Vancity Bike Share bikes onto PEDAL and they pass them on to people who need them the most.
