a move to more sustainable transportation

I want to make sustainable transportation top of mind for everyone!

We're in it together!

Well, we'll be in it together! Does this mean kicking the other person's bum when one of us doesn't want to brave the rain? Perhaps! Does it mean helping each other stay on top of bike maintenance? Yes! But even better, I think this also means occasionally looking for and sharing inspirational material about biking - books, films, poems, events, and people.

Sustainable Transportation

I will be riding an electric assisted Velomobile (enclosed recumbent bicycle) to work and for most errands to replace a car - I am making this change to show others what is possible without a car.

It's not too late to close the Gate(way Project)!!

Continue to speak out against the Gateway project: It's not too late, it's not a done deal!!

Here are some reasons (Source: SPEC):

1) There's no money (feds won't contribute)
2) It makes no sense (prohibitive cost)
3) There's no proof it would help
4) There's no support (the GVRD has voted to oppose the project)
5) There's no time -- we need solutions now, to climate change and traffic congestion.

spreading the word about the dangers of highway expansion

Surrey map

If you're able to distribute flyers for a couple of hours in North Surrey on Sunday, 6 May, it will make a difference. Thanks! - Bonnie

Background: the four Surrey New Democrat seats are the biggest block to New Democrats formally opposing Gateway. Many residents in this area believe the myth that twinning Highway #1 will solve congestion. This is a PRIORITY EDUCATION AREA. All help is greatly appreciated.

Stop driving in Victoria this year and buy an electric bike for my partner

It is time for change, time for me to embrace it. Today I bought a second-hand child carrier for my child (she already has a chariot). I plan to get the chariot hooked up to my bike this weekend and spend the next month, rain or shine going around our city via bike power. I am tired of seeing so many vehicles on the roads and I want to feel fit. So, daughter & I will be learning how to 'hoof' it around town -- no exceptions. My partner and I are saving money for an electric bike for him to drive to work (he works out of town).

As you may know, although the provincial NDP has been raising some good questions regarding the Port Mann Bridge and Highway 1 expansion - they have not taken a firm position against it, for fear of losing voters in Surrey. This stands in contrast to the strong position they took in opposition to the proposed coal fired power plants in Princeton and Tumbler Ridge - which they have raised repeatedly, and which seem to be in serious jeopardy now.

Stop the twinning of the Port Mann Bridge and the widening of Highway 1

Written by Bonnie

It's been noted that expanding highways to relieve congestion is like loosening your belt to relieve obesity. It doesn't address the real problem. So my change is to make sure that the Port Mann Bridge doesn't get twinned and Highway One doesn't get widened.

I'm not claiming this as my own personal change but I'm one of many people working toward making sure we in the Lower Mainland have long-term, sustainable, reasonably priced transportation solutions to get people and goods (not necessarily cars) across the Fraser River, rather than twinning the Port Mann Bridge and widening Highway One.
