Solatube in Radha's Kitchen

At Radha, we've put money and time into retrofitting our building so that it uses less energy - to heat, cool and light the space.

In the attached photo, you can see one of the 12 Solatube tubular skylights we've installed. Now that we have them, we often don't need to use electric lights in our building in the daytime!

One of the shortcomings of the cooperative movement, is the very fact that it is a movement. Movements are always against something, which means they are polarizing by nature, which means there will always be problems of scalability because the 'us' will always be in tension with the 'them'. Also, movements are necessarily political, and politics is a divisive game.

When we breach our New Year or spring time resolutions to get regular physical exercise, eat healthy food, connect with neighbours and live healthier lives, we often blame ourselves. Yet, while individual will and other factors certainly play an important role, often the same can be said about the way our neighbourhood is designed. Some communities are built to make vegetable eating, physical activity, civic engagement and other healthy activities easy, attainable, even attractive choices—others simply aren’t. This 3-minute video clip illustrates the dichotomy.
