Support the Tyee Fellowship and Fund Independent, Investigative Journalism in BC!

The Tyee is fundraising to create four Investigative and Reporting Fellowships, grants we give to journalists to finance in-depth analysis of important issues in BC. Previous Tyee Fellowships have broken major stories, empowered citizens, and won national awards. They've uncovered dangerously inadequate dams on the Fraser River, argued for cheap public transit, explored the possibilities for improving our schools, brilliantly advocated for toxic-free job sites, and have chronicled the local urban farming revolution. Once we've raised the money - we have $3,500 to go and eight days left to find it - journalists can apply by proposing their ideas, which will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges. Anyone who donates to the Fellowship can suggest ideas and be entered to win one of three fantastic prizes. Visit http://thetyee.ca/About/Donate/ to help fund fiesty, fresh, investigative journalism in BC!

Children's toys - Careful what you give

When giving presents to the friends of my child I am now going to consciously avoid anything that is over packaged. I was actually offended by the level of waste that her recent 4th birthday party generated in terms of ribbons, paper and plastic barbie packaging.

Little things can make a big difference

I work at Vancity and my colleague Heather recently had a great idea. We prepare an agenda for our weekly team meeting and have traditionally printed out copies for everyone. We recently had large monitors added to our meetings rooms and she suggested that we just look at the agenda on the screen instead of printing hard copies. It seems like such a small thing, but it starts to add up.

Three things that I’m really proud of and those I want to recognize

Written by lovinchange

Here are three things that I’m really proud of and the people I want to recognize:

1. My colleague Jennifer in Community Business Banking who always brings her lunch in reusable containers – she must have saved at least a tonne of waste from going to the landfill in the four years I’ve known her.

Solatube in Radha's Kitchen

At Radha, we've put money and time into retrofitting our building so that it uses less energy - to heat, cool and light the space.

In the attached photo, you can see one of the 12 Solatube tubular skylights we've installed. Now that we have them, we often don't need to use electric lights in our building in the daytime!
