ForestEthics are looking for an experienced organizer who would act as the "Climate Outreach Coordinator" for Vancouver, working on the 2 key federal ridings listed below. Do you know anyone who would be a great organizer for this contract position (we are currently pulling the final details and job description together).

I recently took a fine course in GHG measurement and accounting. I learned how to focus a company (any organization really) on their GHG footprint. At the end of the labours each company gets:
- knowledge of how much impact they have (and we all have some impact)
- a list of possible or even planned GHG mitigation measures
- a goal or two that they hope to achieve

Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth was a significant kick in the rump to get my act together and commit to being part of the solution. My wife and I sold the car, switched to shopping at farmers markets, bought and started using a sun oven (in the summer), expanded the garden, composted everything we could get away with, committed to working toward zero waste in our home and started trying to dialogue with those who haven't heard the news.

Climate negotiations in Bali are in crisis. Things were looking good till now: near-consensus on a delicate deal, including 2020 targets for rich countries, in return for which China and the developing world would do their part over time. IPCC scientists have said such targets are needed to prevent catastrophe. But Japan, the US and Canada are banding together to wreck the deal, and the rest of the world is starting to waver...

The British Government, in court for requiring Gore's movie to be shown in schools, has found that their own expert witness has admitted under oath that the retreating glacier on Kilimanjaro is not evidence of man-made climate change.

Last year I took the pledge to take transit to work so MyLittleCar and I could reduce our CO2 emissions. From my new home, the commute to work takes 45-60 minutes via skytrain and bus, one way. But that’s okay, ‘cuz it’s better for the environment.

Secretly, I’m also hoping, that by taking transit I might be able to prolong the life of MyLittleCar who in car years, is quite ancient.

Oh, I know, it would be even better for the environment if I traded in my 18-year old car for a ‘good-for-the-environment’ Prius or a SmartCar, but I’m also very conscious that a whole lot of Mother Earth’s resources go into producing a car. Is it ethical to get rid of a perfectly good car (that only has 150,000 kilometers on it) and use more of Earth’s resources just to have the ‘newer better’ model?
