Just over two years ago we here at Vancity conducted a social experiment: we wanted to know what would happen if we chose to spend some of our marketing dollars a little differently with a view to combining our marketing efforts with community building.

bike share experiment, a great success!

well the bike share experiment has come to a close (click here to see how it all got started). we are delighted to report that bikes have been steadily returning back to Vancity Head Office here at 183 Terminal.

Surprisingly bike positive!

Health & Wellness

Rather surprisingly, I have taken up cycling in the city after many years of swearing NEVER to do it. My experience has been very positive. The traffic was not nearly as bad as I had imagined, as long as I stuck to the cycling routes.

Try out Change Everything

I saw the retro-red bike in the Abbotsford Vancity branch last month. I gave my name and number to the staff of the branch and was told I was the second person to ask about it here. The branch manager Ms. Lehman called me a week later and told me how she had lobbied head office for one. I was given the e-mail of the first person to access this service in the mid-Freaser Valley, Mr.

Vancity Bike Share

Helping others

Overall, I had a really great time with my super slick vancity bike. It was a crowd stopper for sure. As I had hoped, I took plenty of rides along the seawall. Seems to be one of the only places in Vancouver to comfortable ride a one speed. Hope to purchase a bike of my own later this fall. I'll be sure to get more speeds :) I'll be looking through postings to pass along the bike.

I loved the bike share idea when I first heard about it and I applaud VanCity on their effort.

Pass it on!

Yesterday was the big day, the three week point of the bikeshare experiment. That means if you have a bike, it is time (if you have not already) to pass it on to someone else. There are quite a few people who have expressed an interest in trying one out. Have a read through some of the blog posts and comments on ChangeEverything to find someone who is waiting for a turn.

Please remember to log into your ChangeEverything account and submit a blog post (tag it 'bikeshare') sharing your experiences with the bike. We'd love to hear what kind of adventures you got up to, conversations you had with people about the bike and the program, new friends you made, interesting people you met and the process you went through to decide who to pass the bike on to.

Or if you are someone who would like to have a turn with a bike, submit a blog post and tag it 'bikesharerequest' like these folks have or contact one of the people who are blogging about their bikeshare experiences directly.

We hope this experiment is inspiring you to get out and pedal your way around this beautiful city of ours! Enjoy yourselves!

This is harder than I thought.

Try out Change Everything

After being kindly offered a bike, I got into town late last night and woke this morning to find that some other lucky devil got to it before me, no doubt whizzing past me on the way to the shops.
