Might not be 100% one's fault or laziness, evidence suggests

When we breach our New Year or spring time resolutions to get regular physical exercise, eat healthy food, connect with neighbours and live healthier lives, we often blame ourselves. Yet, while individual will and other factors certainly play an important role, often the same can be said about the way our neighbourhood is designed. Some communities are built to make vegetable eating, physical activity, civic engagement and other healthy activities easy, attainable, even attractive choices—others simply aren’t. This 3-minute video clip illustrates the dichotomy.

I've got a list of all the raffle prizes to be given away!

Of course, it's all a secret til you come on Sunday...come on, I know you want to! :)

The things left to do:

If I win...

All you need is love.

Just wanted to let everyone know that since I'm in the running to win up to $1,000 from Vancity, just for making a New Year's resolution, I thought the best thing to do with it would be to give a whole lot to charity.

I haven't really explained the format of our training with the TEAM. TEAM in Training is organized by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. There is a group of dedicated full time staff that help in collecting donations from participants that will in turn help the Society.

Baking and sharing

To help keep food costs down, I do a lot of baking, mostly goodies. I break each batch of baking into 3. One for eating that day and for lunches. One batch for the freezer. One batch for sharing.

Change the nature of informed consent in Canada

Written by donnabarker
Change topics:

Although most families have been lead to believe that childhood vaccines are mandatory in Canada, they are not, and giving a child a shot requires the parents to provide the doctor or nurse with informed consent. Unfortunately, the majority of parents are saying "yes" to vaccines without actually being informed about the real risks and benefits of either the vaccine in question or the associated disease.

My goal in 2009 is to create an information website for parents that will not preach a position either for or against vaccination, as all current vaccine websites do, rather it will provide easy to understand, accurate and complete statistics so parents actually can feel like they are making the best decision for their child.

Please vote for my project "vaccine awareness - donnabarker" to help me win $1000 to get the website developed and online. Thank you!
