Avoid using your dryer

Change topics:

If you own a dryer, try to only use it unless you are pressed for time and quickly need your clothes to dry out. If you have the time, dry your clothes the 'old fashioned' way by hanging them up to dry either indoors or outdoors. Purchasing a drying rack (or simply hanging your clothes to dry around your home) could be one of the best energy cutting decisions you make, as dryers consumer more energy than any other appliance. If you really want your clothes to be warm and fluffy when you wear them, just put them in for a few minutes before you put them on.

Only use your bathtub on special occasions

Change topics:

Short showers (around 5 minutes) use about half the amount of water that baths do. Save water by cleaning yourself mostly in the shower, only soaking in the tub on very special occasions.

Only print when necessary

Double check before you hit 'print' for your documents - do you really need to have it in hard copy, or could you do with it just as well saved to your computer? If you absolutely need to print it out, make sure it is ready to be printed, spell checked and all.

Buy less stuff

Change topics:

Before going through the check-out, ask yourself whether you really need all the items you are planning to purchase. Especially for pampering items, see if there is another more environmentally friendly way to take care of yourself, like taking a walk, or calling a good friend.
