On July 24th of 2006 I posted a change to ChangeEverything.ca saying that I would start walking to work. Now that I can post a success story, I feel obliged to say that it's been over two years, and I'm still walking to and from work almost everyday.
Really hot days and really rainy days get to me, but other than that, it's been fantastic.
Thought I should check back to update this. I have walked to and from work almost every day for months now, and it's been great. I truly look forward to going to work in the morning and having some head-clearing, music-listening personal time. Same goes for the end of the work day, when I get a good brisk walk home.
I've lost some weight and feel healthy and energetic - all without having to go to the gym, which I don't care for (unless we could hook gyms up to the electric grid so we could harness that power for the better good). Otherwise, they just feel silly to me.
I used to drive to work, and I hated it. Then I decided I would never drive to work again. It's not that I hate driving, but I hate commuting!
So I started taking the bus or SkyTrain. That was pretty good. But I live like 4km from work. I should walk. I knew this, but never did anything about it. Then one day I started walking. And I love it. I seriously love it.
