Update: I have gone from eating out pretty much every day at lunch time to only purchasing lunch once a week or so. Exceptions are lunch meetings where lunch is brought in or paid for. The goal, after all is saving money, not merely to carry food to and from work.

It has made a significant difference to our budgeting. I have gone from spending anywhere from $100 to $200 a month to spending between $25 and $40 a month.

Ok. So it is only one day - but I have finally brought my lunch to work. Actually it is leftovers from the last two nights of eating out. But it is a start. I keep meaning to make a big batch of curry and rice or something and freeze it in little containers that I can bring to work. I don't enjoy sandwiches. I always feel that I am being ripped off by lunch places, and none of the ones around me offer good vegetarian fare anyway.

William has been steadily impressing me. He has been bringing his lunch to work pretty much daily. I am, in contrast, noticing how much I have not been doing this. I really want to get into the habit of bringing my lunch in, too. I don't have the stomach for all the fast food in the neighborhood, and it is really frickin' expensive to buy lunch all the time. 

So it's been a couple of weeks now and I've been pretty good about this. I went to the First Ravioli Store on Commercial Drive and for about $3.50 per lunch I was able to buy yummy ravioli and great pesto and rose sauces. Truly delicious. Easy to put together and really cheap.

I still get to be reasonably lazy, and I don't have boring leftovers.

It's not like I climbed Mount Everest or anything, but even though I had two compelling lunch invitations from co-workers, I stuck to my plan and ate my leftover pasta. It was fulfilling and saved me some cash.
Tomorrow I have lunch plans. Have had the plans for weeks, so I won't be bringing lunch.
Let's see where this trend goes...

So today I ate leftovers of what I bought for lunch yesterday. Does that count? I'm not so sure. Perhaps I'll chalk it up as a baby-step.
Tomorrow I need to remember to grab some leftover pasta my wife made last night. Will I remember? I hope so. I better!

I have all these lame excuses for not bringing my lunch. 'It's a chance to get out of the office in the middle of the day.' 'It's a chance to catch up with friends.' 'It's a chance to socialize with my co-workers.' But it's not. It's stupid.

First of all, it's a crazy stupid waste of money. Insane. How much do I spend on lunches in a month? Seriously? Like $8/day, 20 days a month? That's a hundred sixty bucks a month. Woah.
