Compel governments to live up to their international obligations related to guaranteeing human rights

December 10, 2008 is the 60th Anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human rights: what constitutes "right to security"

Joan Russow Global Compliance Research Project

Under the UN Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR), is included the "right to security of the person". Throughout the UN documents, "security of the person" is not so-called "security" provided through militarism . True security of the person entails the human right to water, to food, to housing, to sewage treatment, to education, to health care, to safe and healthy working conditions, to peace etc. The Global military budget must be reallocated to provide for true security.

Throughout years of UN documents arising subsequently to the UNDHR, the global community has incurred obligations and commitments related to the right to what could be described as "true security" .
