So, as if riding home on my very first day back on a bike in over a year wasn't hard enough on me, I thought it would be smart to ride to volleyball too... DUH. Biker bum takes a while to develop. Even that awesome cushy seat didn't prevent it from happening. Whine whine.
Highlight: Coasting downhill most of the way home. Thankfully.
Wow - that launch event was great! Was so fun to see the sea of 45 riders heading off with these sweet bikes. So many people stopped and chatted with me about the bikes and the bikeshare experiment. I brought the bike up into my office and literally had a line-up of people at my desk inquiring about how to get involved.
I would love love love to grab one of these bikes for a few weeks! Last year, I lived in Sweden and always used a bike to get to and from school - it was awesome! I loved that I could ride alongside the sea, get a bit of exercise, and wake up before classes started. Now that I'm back in Vancouver, I have given up my car and only commute via skytrain and bus. Still, I would love to get
I found it a bit scary to hear about the level of effect that the global production of beef has on greenhouse gas emissions! Yikes! Part of this is due to the land clearing to have a place to put your cattle, and the other main part goes to the actual animal flatulance (COW FARTING!!!). Now, I've heard that some 'scientists' are working on finding a solution to fix this bovine farting issue, and have come up with a wonderous pill to give the animals to help them with this (Aside: Do you think they know they have a gas problem?).... However, apparently this wonderful pill is the size of a human fist. Can you imagine? Might need a little sumfin to wash THAT down with! Ewww....
If anyone is going to fly Westjet, I'd like to encourage them to first go to http://offsetters.ca/ and then link through their site. Basically, Offsetters get rewarded for people visiting Westjet and Offsetters then takes that money and invests in projects that create emission reduction projects. It costs you nothing (NOTHING).. really. Just follow the link. Of course, if you fly another airline, you can also use Offsetters, or Climate Care (UK), or othes....
I'd really like to get back into shape. I can't stand going to the gym though - I need something to 'play'... but I also need that something to be at a level that I can ease my body into (it's been while, folks!). Would love to play some basketball around town. Does anyone know of any semi-competitive womens or co-ed teams that need a player? I also plan to try out a kickboxing bootcamp when I return from my holidays at the end of November.
Ok, starting today I'm commiting to flossing more often. I wonder if it has anything to do with my dentist appointment next week??? Oh well, as long as I keep it up afterwards, right?
