Gordon Campbell looking at privatized water treatment for lower mainland
My co-author at IndieScribe has written a post about how Gordon Campbell is trying to push privatized water treatment facilities onto British Columbians, and how is going to have a hard time of it because we don't support it. LINK.
Is it not true that our tax dollars pay for clean water? And if the city, district, province or whoever cannot provide this sufficiently then it is their failing? I know that they cannot control mother nature, but come on - shouldn't they have anticipated something like this could have happened? I mean, boohoo we got a lot of rain - we live in a rain forest - it isn't much of a stretch to think that it is a possibility that we would get this much rain, therefore fowling our water?
I hate to get my back up, but I think some question need to be asked, and some answers given.

Hey that's lettin' them have
Hey that's lettin' them have it!
We don't know who is at fault because we don't even know how we receive the great utilities that we enjoy... but who ever they are must be really... incompetent.
Let's get some answers - try these questions.
How has the city changed over the past 25 years?
Hasn't changed at all - infrastructure is in place for any eventuality
Slow gradual change - easy to plan and keep up.
Has changed dramatically - huge population influx
How often has this happened over the past 25 years?
Continual foul water - people constantly sick from water borne diseases.
Many times - always in turmoil over foul water
A few times
Never before
How prepared were you in case of unsafe water?
Had three months worth in storage
Had three days worth in storage.
Had a bottle in the fridge - enough for three hours.
Had no water, don't even filter, and drink right from the tap. as I have my whole lucky life.
So if we are not planning for something as basic as water for our own consumption in case of emergency, how can we be criticizing anyone else?
I see quite a lot of criticism here in blogland - its the government, its the big corporations, its the publisher of a newspaper ruining my day, its always somebody else doing it to me - which is, well, nonsense in the real world.
Since this is a blog about change I'd expect one might read about how people are going to change their approach to situations and circumstances to be happier, more fulfilled or more impactful to our community and world.
But I'm not complaining - I don't think complaining actually qualifies as change.

Hi Scott, The Council of
Hi Scott,
The Council of Canadians' Water Policy pages has stories about water privitization efforts in Canada and from around the world.
The Council has a good track record at bringing DBO [design, build & operate] and P3 [public private partnership] proposals for managing our water supply/sewage treatment to the attention of the public in Canada and stopping them.
They advocate keeping water resources in public hands. Good idea.
Regards,
Al Pasternak
P.S. The Council of Canadians' views on any issue do not always reflect my own.:-)
