Was at the panel discussion and showing of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" last night at Ridge cinema. One of the panelists (a PhD prof) stated that a kiwi costs 16X its weight in carbon emissions; a banana, some 2-1/2 times its weight. Several panelists and people from the audience drove home the point: Buy what is locally grown.

After the panel discussion, I asked one of the prof's about the 200-MIle Diet (Utne magazine article) and he opined that its quite possible that the 200-Mile Diet (the predecessor of Vancouver's 100 Mile Diet) is ENOUGH, BY ITSELF to save the planet from Climate Change -- although he stated that since its unlikely that entire populations would be able to adhere to the 200-Mile Diet, we should also conserve energy, etc etc etc.

Also, it was great to see that several of the panelists (UBC profs) came on their bikes. As did Vancouver's own "Al Gore", Dr. Fred Bass, the former councilman, who says he intends to run for mayor.

I saw one or more people crying after the movie was over. Apparently, it moved them, too.

Hope that everyone will be watching this movie.

Al Gore drives home the point: Forget the economics, extinction is the risk mankind faces. Monbiot and Fred Bass say the same thing. These are wise people we should be listening to them. Gore also stated that Hurricane Katrina was fore-warned several days before it hit -- but the government ignored it. Climate Change also came with a warning -- that most people in government are ignoring. Let's do something about that, eh?
