Update on Mara's story

We just got word that Mara's kids received their visas! Everyone is over the moon, as you can well imagine. It's been over a 3 year wait and Mara is ecstatic and eager to get the airline flights booked. We're looking for a place for her to rent so they will all have a place to stay until they can get some help from BC Housing. The push is on to raise funds!

Hi Sharryn,

I heard you are looking for some supplies for this family. I have some furniture I would be more than happy to give them, namely a table and chairs. I have to say though that the table is not pretty, old and somebody with no eye for design tried to add a leaf at some point, but with a nice tablecloth (which I would include), it's functional. I've tried to give it to Good Will, but they won't take it. That said, I have always thought that somebody somewhere could use it and so it sits in my basement. The chairs...4 that match the table (so again, they are not the prettiest design) plus another 2 that are plain wood and in very good shape. I may also have a set of dishes, but I will have to check on that.

Let me know if any of these would be useful, and if so where/when to deliver them.

Hi Krista,

Thank you for your offer, that's so nice of you. However, we have contacted a charity that has agreed to supply furniture and most of the household bare necessities the family will need. We appreciate your response and just to let you and anyone else who wants to help know, this is where we're at now....

We are now collecting non-perishable food items and continuing to ask for cash donations to help cover rent, hydro, bus passes, school supplies, etc. 100% of cash donations will be used to help the family. Donations can be made at any TD Canada Trust, The account is,Women Helping Women (060)5211444.

We also continue to look for opportunities and help with seeking $2 donations for our orange 'Cause' bracelets. If anyone is willing to take a few to 'sell' to friends or workmates, I will deliver whatever amount you want.

and we have a Wish List of some other things that we are hoping we can get some help with. We are seeking donations of the following items: 5 pillows, 5 hot water bottles ( the climate change will be a shock to their systems), toothbrushes, soap, deoderant, and towels.

We have 3 girls. 2 are size 8-10 ladies and one a size 12 ladies. We have two teenage boys both size men's med. and we are looking for winter jackets, socks, underwear, flannel pyjamas, sweat pants, gloves, hats, and sweaters.
