create a greener world

See, I typed all of this already, and it mysteriously disappeared when i went to post it, so here I am typing it again, even though what I kinda want to do is navigate away and not come back.

1. I bought compostable trash bags.

2. I use more Choice Theory in my ESL classroom.

3. I showed the movie  'An Inconvenient Truth' to my ESL students.

4. I am taking a course in Non Violent Communication.

5. I wrote a couple of letters to Translink, one of which included a petition that I made up and collected signatures for.

6. I wrote letters to my local grocery stores asking for some 'greener' products.

7. I have collected and disseminated info on various 'green' programs, including electronics recycling, to my friends.

8. I have collected and given info to the Operations Manager at my company about 'greener' products we could use.

9. I have posted to my company's internal blog about how to be greener at work.

That's enough for now.:)

Wow, I have been having the best time in my classes lately. I wonder if the universe is giving me better students, or if it is my changes that have made me appreciate my students more, and consequently, they seem to appreciate me more.

I just 'feel' the love a lot. This past weekend one of my students called me from Japan, after she went home! I got another phone call,  and I got 3 emails! It was incredible for me.

I hope it is me changing, I would like to believe that I can have a positive impact on the world around me, and therefore also on me.

Today they were doing presentations, and one of them did a presentation on How to save the Earth. I cried, I was so happy. They were all amazed and I really felt we bonded.

So, what was my change? Applying Choice Theory in the classroom, to the extent possible. Treating the students with more respect and giving them more choice. Not everyone responds to it, but most seem to. I know it makes a big difference for me.

Now, if I could only do it with my co-workers ;)
