Donate blood
I wish more people would get out and donate blood. I go about every two months, and yesterday made m y 21st or 22nd donation. I started up a Partners for Life program at work, to invite and encourage the people at my company [over 100 staff] to go out and donate, and I got about 9 donors last year. 9. Well, at least it is over the average of 3 percent, but come on!
The problem is, I don't know how to cajole people in a nice way, I am not one of those people who is always smiling and surrounded by people clamoring for my attention. Well, not outside of the classroom anyway. So I have a hard time getting people to come out and give on a regular basis.
Did you know that less than 3% of elligible BC'ers actually donate, But about 60% of us will need blood or blood products in our lives?
Did you know that one donation can save the lives of up to 3 people? and that that one donation only lasts for 3 days?
Even if you can't give to the regular population, you can still give for research, which saves the research people having to take blood from those who donate for life saving.
I hope that those of you who read this will call 1-888-2-donate and make an appointment as soon as possible and get out there.
In fact, we should set up a Change Everything blood drive! What do you say, Kate? Wanna be the organizer [because you ARE one of those smiling types mentioned above :)]
