bio bags
When I lived in Korea, I learned that the people there had to use biodegradable plastic bags for trash disposal. I thought it was a great idea. Yes, they are more expensive than the free, non-degradable bags one gets from the store, but I got to thinking:
Why doesn't our goverment mandate that all plastic bags be bio-bags that would degrade in the dumps? Yes, the bags would be more expensive to produce, but no one would lose jobs and we pay for the bags anyway. It isn't like corporations don't make enough money. I think they could afford to spend a little for a nice long term impact.

AHA! There IS a company in
AHA! There IS a company in Canada that makes what I call 'bio-bags'!! How do I know? BECASUE I BOUGHT SOME AT epic, the sustainable living expo!!!!!
They are called BAG-TO-NATURE [the bags] and they come in various sizes [I bought the kitchen garbage size] and the company's name is INDACO Manufacturing, Ltd. The bags are made in Canada, compostable and cheap. [www.bagtonature.ca]
So, I think I will write to many politicians strongly requesting that they begin proceedings to make compostable bags a reality in ALL homes. Cuz hey, it ain't getting any cooler outside, I can attest to that.
