"Fair Trade" for BC produce?
Well, I heard back from a nice man named Paul at SPUD. He (like me) is not sure where to start in a quest to ensure SPUD's supplliers are good employers. He said his manager was looking into it.
In the meantime, I did a bit of digging on the internet and found that the BC Federation of Labour has been doing some work on this issue. They have just sent sent some very comprehensive recommendations on this to BC Labour MInister Olga Ilich.
So I sent the Federation a note asking for help with my question for SPUD. Namely: how do I know the farms I buy from are the good ones? And, I also sent a note to Olga Ilich, the Premier, and my MLA to encourage the province to move on BC Fed's recommendations. we'll see what floats back to me over the next week.
My question to the changeeverything community is this: How many of you would be willing to pay a bit more for produce if was certified "ethically farmed" the way "Fair Trade" or "Organic" is certified?
Also, if you felt like writing to the government too, that would be cool. I will post a copy of my letter if you want to plagiarize from it.

I would definitely pay a little bit more for Fair Trade, Organic food. Those few extra dollars we pay for Fair Trade produce are helping someone support their family, so I think it's worth it. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where to buy Fair Trade food in B.C., and I'd really like to find out. If anyone knows, please post it somewhere here!
