Composting in Mount Pleasant

We want to compost-- but we don't have anywhere to keep a compost bucket, or anywhere to dump the contents of the bucket. We tried Bokashi, which is a fabulous system, except we don't have anywhere to bury the compost (Bokashi requires burying for a period of time). Our neighbourhood also has its share of rats.

Anyone have any ideas about where we could take our food scraps, etc?

If there's a community garden near you, they might have composting facilities and accept donations. I've heard larger gardens like Strathcona might do that, but I don't know of any gardens specifically in Mount Pleasant that do this (though the gardens must surely exist). Also, it sounds like the sort of thing QE Park could (should?) do.

There is a community garden at Tea Swamp Park at Sophie and 16th - they might have a compost going that you could contribute to!

Hi,

My little family of three had a worm composting system in our apartment that was of no bother at all. We just took a giant Rubbermaid container (70 gallon, I think) and got started with wormies. There are a ton of sites online that can tell you more about it. Good luck!
