Learning to Play Harmonica

Try out Change Everything

I've been wanting to learn an instrument for a long while now but have no time and I've been scared of the large commitment involved. So.....when my friend said I could learn the basics of playing harmonica in just 2 lessons, I jumped on it. Two lessons later, I have in fact learned the basics of harmonica, but now I need to practice and keep working on it. That's really the hard part and I'm posting it here in hopes of motivating myself to find a teeny bit of free time to dedicate to this new (fun, but challenging) hobby. Anyone else play harmonica out there? How long did it take you to learn?

Sandra,

I am really interested in playing harmonica. I bought one along with a book last year and havent made any progress. I think I need a buddy!

I also enrolled in violin lessons this weekend as a direct result of another conversation on this site. Check it out!

I just recently started to

I just recently started to learn myself. One of the things that I've found the most interesting is the subtlety of sound that can be be drawn out by changing the shape of my mouth.

I remember being a kid and just blowing into one to my heart's content, but no real form...

I've managed to learn one song pretty well, and I'm even starting to find songs I know by accident. One thing that's helped me with finding songs has been learning a scale. I learned a basic scale on a C diatonic harmonica and it's just really useful to know where the next note is. Makes it easier to feel my way through the music!
