fabulous and innovative idea
I think the Vancity bikeshare program is a fabulous and innovative idea to promote friendly commuting and to raise awareness within the community. I have not ridden since my elementary days and have always said that I should just ride a bike to work given that it is so close. The problem: I don't own a bike yet! So this is a perfect opportunity for me to try it out and experience the ride while knowing I am making a difference for the environment. Plus...as I am riding along - I want people to ask e what it is all about as "Vancity" is written all over it and so it gives me the opportunity to spread the word about how Vancity is advocating for change and wants everyone to take part of it.

How did you end up doing with the experiment? Did it change your habits? I know I am biking to work a lot these days as a direct result of the bikeshare experiment.
Who did you end up giving your bike to? Are you able to encourage them to log on and share their story?

well, i've gotten through my
well, i've gotten through my 1st week whooo hooo!!!! it has been so far, quite a great experience. i've rode my bike to work almost every opportunity i get. every monday i go for a walk with my friend who lives in kits. it takes me about 15 minutes to meet her half way before we walk together but with a bike, i was able to bike to her place and go for a longer walk and catch up with even greater conversations as we have more time. i've even talked up the bikeshare program as i'm stopped at a light and people comment, 'cool bike'! so it has given me an opportunity to spread the word. more so for me, it has prompted me to start up with the exercise routine - so i have also been going for runs. it's great!
i also had a strata meeting during the first week and have offered up the bike to those who want to try it out - no takers yet, but i'll keep you posted!
i have been talking it up to my sister who i want to pass the bike along to but she is soooo lazy! she lives downtown and still drives her car around to do errands in the area. maybe a bike will do the trick?!
and lastly, i do have to comment as my fellow coworkers make fun of me, it is quite a challenge to figure out what i'm going to wear to work as i too am somewhat lazy and don't want to bring along a change of clothes. so it's pretty much me in my work clothes and purse riding on my bike!
i'll let you know what other exciting things go on during the next couple of weeks. i even bumped into a fellow bike share participant!
