A small victory for the environment: tupperware take-out success

A nice bowl of teriyaki chicken on rice... no styrofoam take-out!

As mentioned previously, I feel guilty taking home food in styrofoam containers.

So... went to Stanley Restaurant in Delta (Vietnamese food), ordered some teriyaki chicken on rice (I don't like pho) to go and produced a glass bowl for the order. Bowl was taken, filled with food, given back without question.

Somehow the food tasted that much better when I got home.

Chinese Take Out Boxes

Chinese Take Out Boxes

Congratulations on your success. Have you thought of using traditional Chinese Food take out boxes instead. They would be less conspicious than a big glass bowl (collapsable, easy to pop-up for use), and are reusable and much more recyclable than styrofoam.

There's a shop a few doors up from the old City Hall (Heritage Hall) on Main street (sorry forget the name) which sells reclaimed cast offs from various industries to teachers and crafters. I see chinese take out boxes there (in various sizes) quite often.

Good suggestion, and I get where you're coming from, Envirowoman - it's embarrassing to call attention to yourself. But for those who are feeling brave, maybe this is a case of the more conspicuous, the better.

I just wanted to share that

I just wanted to share that I did this with my lunch today. Even though the place I go to uses biodegradeable containers, it still feels good not to be wasteful.

It's great to see someone

It's great to see someone making a real difference with a simple choice.  Kudos to you!

I think it just makes good enviro sense.  Why should we have to take our food in a styrofoam container instead of in our own, if we so choose?  It's a shame how much garbage we unnecessarily create.  I can only hope that if people lead by example, others will eventually follow suit.

People may give you a funny look, but the more you do it, the more comfortable you'll be.  I have even brought my container to McDonalds for hotcakes.

Focus on the green that really matters.
