Amazing!! Tonight was a huge
Amazing!!
Tonight was a huge success! I managed to get to everyone on my list, 17 calls in all from New Westminster to UBC and quite a few places in between. My apologies if I didn't get you on the list in time, but there will be another run quite soon, so keep your bags handy (and tell your friends!).
Thanks to everyone for their overwhelming support. I filled up the Explorer to overflowing twice over. I dropped the first load at Triage on Powell Street, and after making the rest of the pickups, dropped the second load to the Vancouver Rescue Club on 12th and Sophia.
Items included everything from coats, hats, gloves and scarves to duvets, soap, towels, pillows and bathrobes. The last items compliments of Tony from the Waterfront Fairmont Hotel who had a massive donation that was eagerly received at the downtown eastside shelter.
Although the snowy roads were a bit of a challenge, I was offered a great deal of encouragement from everyone I met. Thanks so much for the positive feedback, and for every single generous contribution. There are people who are a lot warmer, and sleeping in more comfort thanks to your effort to put those items aside and get in touch.
I want to echo the sentiments of many others and give a huge thanks to Kate for providing the impetus for us to all take action. I’d also like to encourage others to connect to make more donations find their way to people in need.
