Vancity Member's Bicycle Ambulance Projects for Africa Visits Vancity's Kits 4th Avenue Branch Saturday June 14 From 9am-3pm
Design for Development is thrilled to be visiting Vancity's Kits 4th Avenue Branch all day Saturday June 14. There will be a continuous presentation about our Bambulance, Bicycle Ambulance and other projects. We will be fundraising to ensure that the Bambulance Pilot Project rolls later this year in Kenya in Nairobi's Mathare slum-population 500,000.
Bambulance debuted in May at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, receiving amazing media and public interest. The revolutionary new prototype of our original steel-framed Bicycle Ambulance is made almost entirely of bamboo! Design Graduate students Chris Ryan and Philippa Mennell will take their design to Mathare.
Every day throughout Africa and the developing world, thousands of people are dying from HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other serious diseases and injuries, and pregnancy complications, because they have no access to emergency medical transportation. We pick up a phone and dial 911, and within minutes, an ambulance and firetrucks appear on our doorstep. There is no 911 in most of Africa.
Design For Development's Bicycle Ambulance and Bambulance are designed to meet the drastic need. They are simple, sustainable and practical solutions to a critical problem. There are currently 60 Bicycle Ambulances on the ground in Namibia, saving thousands of lives.
Find out about our Bambulance Pilot Project in the Mathare Slum, where we will teach the youth group Community Transformers to build, run amd maintain Bambulance. Their partners, WEEP the Women's Education and Empowerment Project(Women living with HIV/AIDS) will create and sew the soft parts of the Bambulance. We will learn so much from each other, lives will be changed for ever.
Come and see what we are doing in Africa and elsewhere. Join us in making a difference and saving lives. Make a tax-free donation.
Look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
