Stand Up For Mental Health Brings Its Own Brand of Inspired Insanity to The Stanley May 31st

Most people think that you have to be nuts to go anywhere near stand-up comedy. We are nuts!!

Stand Up For Mental Health (SMH) uses laughter to break down the prejudice, stigma and discrimination that surrounds mental illness. We use humour to empower our comics and our audiences. Laughter is our lethal and cost-effective weapon of choice.

WE INVENTED LAUGHTER YOGA WAY BEFORE IT BECAME IN!!!

Our SMH Vancouver 2010 Comedy Debut Benefit takes place on May 31st at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage. The Show Features the Comedy of our Fabulous SMH Vancouver Class of 2010, SMH founder David Granirer, Psychiatrist Judy Allen and the Legendary Mike MacDonald.

GENERAL ROMEO DALLAIRE WILL OPEN OUR SHOW WITH A MESSAGE FROM OTTAWA.

This Show is Dedicated to Our Canadian Troops and Their Families. SMH is proud to work with the Departments of National Defence, Veterans Affairs, the Legion and the BC Mainland Military Family Resource Centre on a number of projects that facilitate the discussion about mental illness within the military. BC Mainland MFRC joins us in presenting this event.

Pat,
I am sorry to have missed the show last night, but I would love to know about other "stand up for mental health" shows in the future.

My business is located in the DTES and i walk through that neighborhood each day. There is a lot of beauty and a lot of funny people. It was lovely to watch this video and experience a little more of the funny side of "nuts"

Hi Kate,

Patrice Pratt,Vancity Board Chair and several of the Board plus members of the Vancity Executive Team joined us for a fabulous evening. Vancity Associates from Head Office and the North Van Community Branch volunteered last night to help us take donations...so Vancity, as one of our Valued Sponsors had a huge presence.

JUNE 23 we are doing a Comedy Benefit at the Yale Hotel.

JUNE 24 we are having our SMH PACE Grad Show at the Fire Hall Theatre.SMH IS PROUD TO PARTNER WITH PACE SOCIETY IN THE DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE. The Prostitution Alternatives Counseling and Education provides invaluable services to and by street level sex workers. Our SMH PACE Grad show not only breaks down the stigma around mental illness but also around sex work.
