Rode bike to Judo Club in Clearbrook last week.

Try out Change Everything

I saw the retro-red bike in the Abbotsford Vancity branch last month. I gave my name and number to the staff of the branch and was told I was the second person to ask about it here. The branch manager Ms. Lehman called me a week later and told me how she had lobbied head office for one. I was given the e-mail of the first person to access this service in the mid-Freaser Valley, Mr. Neufeld, a Costco Employee, who rode the bike to work for a few weeks.

It reminds me of my first bike some years ago. It has one forward speed, wide handle bars, a bell, and you back peddle for a brake. What a treat to get back on a bike after a few decades of driving nearly everywhere. My neighbours tried it on my block the first night. They loved it, too. I rode a block or two to the local Fishtrap Creek park then looped around the park and back home. Then I put a light on it and rode to the Judo Club to watch Aikido instruction. It is great exercise.

The wide seat, tires and spring loaded suspension makes it comfortable on both paved and gravel paths. It would be wonderful to have dozens of them stationed around the town like those Velo bikes in Lyon, France. This change in attitude toward short trips around town would certainly improve my cardio-vascular fitness.  How about yours? I hope to hear from someone nearby in the next couple weeks. Who would like to take it for the next few weeks?
