My new business takes advantage of "mutually beneficial problems" (confused? read on...)

Meeting room in Cathedral Place

This would be a cheap marketing ploy on any other website but I honestly believe the underlying motive for my new business is very much in line with changeeverything, and I hope that it inspires others to adopt a broader thinking pattern when it comes to possible changes we can make by better utilizing resources we already have.

In a nutshell, my new business, RoomLinks.ca, connects companies with under-utilized meeting rooms (boardrooms, classrooms, computer training labs, etc.) with businesses looking to rent short-term meeting space. My website offers thorough room listings with photos coupled with online scheduling and payment. This makes it easy for the owners (they don't have to worry about marketing, phone calls, scheduling headaches, or no-shows), easy for the renters (as I get more rooms online it will be a great resource for inexpensive rooms - often in the same business building, plus they can see all available times at a glance which decreases phone tag) and easy for me (everything is pretty automated).

Again, is this a marketing ploy? If it gets me business, great, but I hope it serves as a model. Our beautiful city is getting more and more crowded in. Resources on our planet in general are limited. Making better use of what we already have is very important. In general, however, most people see this as an unpleasant duty to be performed out of guilt. What I have tried to do is create a win-win-win situation. Win for the owners of the rooms who are generating income from something they don't always use. Win for the renters who get a low cost, convenient space. And a win for me in that I'm profiting off a service I feel good about.

I love seeing simple solutions that generate value on all levels for all involved, do more with less, and enhance a sense of community. I especially like to see people recognizing "mutually beneficial problems", such as a business having the problem of paying for space that they don't to use to capacity, but don't want the headache of renting out, and another businesses with the problem of spending a lot of time hunting down expensive meeting space. I hope my business model inspires others to look for these mutually beneficial problems and take action towards creating a workable, positive solution that benefits all involved.

Great idea and freakily I

Written by Rooperstar

Great idea and freakily I realised only last night that I have exactly that need. Then today I find this post.

I am in a start-up mode and was thinking, if only there was somewhere that I could go that showed me who had a set of rooms free for a launch that I could rent at a discount because they were empty. I hope that the business took off and if you want to let me know the site address contact me through the Changeeverything site.
