Kind service by paramedics

Thanks to the person who blogs here about not being a 'sidewalk observer' but being involved in what you see around you, I've been more active in a number of areas.  This morning I awoke to particularly peculiar vocalizations outside.   An overweight woman was either doing the funky chicken or off her meds, and was writhing around on the sidewalk.  She'd pull her pants half way down then up, and her arms were flailing about.  Clearly she was not in her right mind, and while not in distress per se, was rather miserable.

Rather than ignore it like I usually would, I had 911 put me through to the non-emergency line.  About 15 minutes later a couple paramedics and a policeman turned up.  I watched anxiously - I didn't want to try to help only to have her badly treated.

The guys knocked my socks off.  She clearly didn't want their help, but they coaxed her and coaxed her, and although eventually put a bracelet on her, were as gentle as possible - ensuring her head stopped hitting the sidewalk, and speaking quietly to her.  At one point, one paramedic even patted her reassuringly on the back, while she continued to flail.

A guy in a wheelchair came up who knew her, and also assured her, 'they're going to help you.  They're going to help you.  Relax".   Eventually they got her onto a stretcher and took her to emergency I suppose.

With any luck she'll be fed something to nourish her body, and perhaps in some time of lucidity she'll have a fighting chance to make some life-giving choices for herself.

What a way to start a Sunday morning.  Rarely a dull morning around here.

Followed it up by a coffee at Blake's.  Love that place.
