Leeeetle steps and leeeeetle steps = I might effect some change after all
What a difference between my last post and this one. I'm heartened again, thanks in part to the commenters on my last post in which I despaired of ever effecting change.
I've been encouraged by what others are up to, and am also throwing my weight (such as it is) in with org's who already have a bit of traction. One is Streams of Justice, who organize periodic 'lie-ins' in front of the homelessness countdown clock at the VAG, and also, periodically organize "STAND" in which people around the city stand on a street corner, using the same method of protest as women protesting the Disappearances in Argentina/Chile.
So I did my first 'lie in' a couple weeks ago, and it was the easiest protest ever - a good thing, since I'm a newbie at this. All we did was show up, lie down for a while during which people took photos, and left.
Next steps I want to do are meet people who, like me, are already in the neighbourhood, and taking their own steps to reach out to the community around them. I don't know where that will lead, but I suspect I'll meet some pretty cool, creative people.
