Photography, Green Drinks and Traveling
Well, the gist of it is... since I graduated with a degree in Environmental Studies in 2002 (my focus was on the influences of responsible environmental behaviour) I haven't found my "dream job". I worked at a couple of non-profit orgs in Toronto and then decided to move to Vancouver in 2003. Still didn't find anything here in Vancouver that really made me excited. I volunteered at a bunch of enviro orgs but unfortunately.. its a tough field to break into and find a good job that fits - I guess its difficult to find a job that makes you happy in any field.
So, in the meantime I've started my own online business which I just launched on Monday. It's called Out of This World Photography (it's basically photographs of the beautiful outdoors) feel free to check it out at: http://www.outofthisworldphotography.com . I've made sure to give a percentage of proceeds to a non-profit environmental organization called Nature Canada http://www.naturecanada.ca
In other enviro happenings, in Feb 2005 I joined forces with Rika Saha and Christina Olsen to co-organize Green Drinks in Vancouver (http://www.greendrinks.org, click on Canada and then Vancouver) which is an informal environmental networking gathering that happens every third Wednesday of every month. Our hope is those who care about the environment connect with one another at these monthly events and develop friendships, find jobs and create partnerships. I know for me, having attended almost every single Green Drinks since it started over two years ago, I feel hopeful and inspired to be in a room full of like-minded people. So feel free to join us!!
I'm hoping in the future to do one of those around the world trips for one year and take loads of photographs along the way as well as write about what I see, especially as it relates to the environment. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done extensive traveling.
Anyway, that's it from me!
