Offsetting the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games one tonne at a time - Pass it On
VANOC has worked hard to reduce the emissions associated with the Games. It has worked with the various categories:
- Know
- Reduce
- Offset
- Inspire
The direct footprint has been measured. Changes have been made to reduce the footprint and the remainder will be offset. Now, there is the question of the indirect emissions which includes the spectator travel and accomodations. There is a voluntary program where spectators can measure their own footprint, reduce it and offset the balance. There are few ways to get engaged:
- Take transit and alternate forms of transportation to events
- Measure your footprint with the online travel and accomodation calulator
- Buy one tonne of carbon offsets from the 2010 Legacy Portfolio–a unique portfolio of high quality carbon credits assembled specifically for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games–and receive a commemorative certificate and a special limited edition Offsetters 2010 pin. Wear it as a badge of honour and people will know that you played a part.
- Pass it On -
The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games embrace changes big and small in order to reduce their environmental impact. One of the best legacies would be increased awareness and action on the small changes everyone can make to reduce their impact on the environment.
Here are just a few ways you can pass it on:
- Share with your social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter about your support of a carbon neutral Games.
- Post a version of the 2010 Travel and Accommodation Calculator to your web site. Email us for the iframe code.
