24/Metro
the sad thing is is that these daily puplications, 24, Metro, really are very high quality publications. in find them to be a great source of concise information about the really important things going on. the things we need to be paying attention to. Hilary duff is being stalked? oh. my. god. come'on people, the question we all need to be asking is, "what can I do?" seriously. p diddy never loved j.lo? what? WHAT? tragic. simply tragic. 23 pages with which to keep me informed, and a chocolate festival and an earthquake in hawaii make the cut. hmm. seems, just maybe, bear with me here, that there might be more pressing news to report. i know i'm going out there on that one. i've been called a bit of a radical before.
let's check out metro - that was 24 hours, (which i found sitting under my jacket on the chair beside me only after i'd started writing this. no sh*t. maybe me smile. for the copy of metro, however, i had only to cross the street from my comfy chair at Our Town cafe.)
okay, oh isn't that nice. michelle wright played a tribute to the troops in afghanistan. afghanistan, afghanistan, wasn't there a war there a while back or something? ooh, breaking news on anna nicole smith's grandson (i thought it was her son?), some people are saying he was MURDERED. my god. i need to stay on this one. what else, what else, oh here. whatthu.. a full page ad to buy US Government Gold! final release! "buy before it reaches $2000/oz". "limit of ten gold coins strictly adhered to". do they take credit card? they do! okay i gotta go.
whew, i made it. got my ten coins for $5800, but they could be worth over 25K "in the future". in the future sounds like good terms to me! good 'ol USA, that's a good investment right there.
anyway. back to the news. well now here's something interesting: a new documentary called Spam: The Documentary. good title. oh best quote:
"Computers are these wonderful things...We've come so far and now the biggest threat to them are guys selling penis enlargment pills. The internet was made to withstand a nuclear attack, but it's guys selling useless crap that's killing it."
that is so true, and so ironic.

have you read Pamela
have you read Pamela Groberman's column on page 11 of today's 24 hours?
Dont you think it is ironic that she says her company is 'passionate about sustainable living' yet she cant see the logic in S Robarts suggestion that perhaps a better way might be to let people who actually want the paper self select and get the paper on their own? Instead it seems that she thinks it is perfectly sustainable to litter the streets with the paper.

GREEN LIVING
I’m all for change.
After all, this column is about changing perspectives.
So when my friend Sara Holland from Vancity told
me about a new website her company is sponsoring,
changeeverything.ca, I checked it out.
Recently launched, it’s is a social networking site
that is about making changes in people lives, the
community and the world.
Sara says it’s the first site of its kind to be sponsored
by a corporation where there is absolutely no
mention of its products and services – not even a
logo.
“It’s about building community, baby!” she writes.
It works like this: You go to the site, create a profile,
then decide what you want to change – smoking,
flossing, affordable housing, bottom trawling, whatever.
You talk about it and others respond, sharing
ideas and offering encouragement.
What’s not to like about a community blog?
Well for one thing, it’s got more fluff than the
Easter Bunny. After reading a few of the changes people
want, my first thought was: Get a life?
Take Mr. S. Robarts, for example. He wants to ban
people from handing out 24 hours on the street.
“Leave them in boxes,” he fumes, “if I want one I
will take it.”
Well, Mr. Robarts, I like mine handed to me. Not
only is it someone’s job, but I don’t have to fumble
with a box while juggling my coffee and umbrella.
Some things don’t need changing.
