24/Metro

make fun of stuff more

the sad thing is is that these daily puplications, 24, Metro, really are very high quality publications. in find them to be a great source of concise information about the really important things going on. the things we need to be paying attention to. Hilary duff is being stalked? oh. my. god. come'on people, the question we all need to be asking is, "what can I do?" seriously. p diddy never loved j.lo? what? WHAT? tragic. simply tragic. 23 pages with which to keep me informed, and a chocolate festival and an earthquake in hawaii make the cut. hmm. seems, just maybe, bear with me here, that there might be more pressing news to report. i know i'm going out there on that one. i've been called a bit of a radical before.

Elephants in the room

In response to jominglau's comment I thought I'd throw out some thoughts on group ideologies and dysfuntional dynamics that arise in collectives and movements. In my view, genuine engagement in social change or social upliftment is much more than a process, or a set of rules of engagement, or a list of acceptable behaviours - consuming behaviours, purchasing behaviours, etc.

get into it!

Just watched Bill Clinton tear apart FoxNews here and now I'm feeling a little fired up. I love Bill, not because I think he did everything right, but because of the quality of his engagement. He's pissed off and is fine with being pissed off. He's way too sharp to let himself be played into these idiotically simple political manipulations, and he's courageous enough to lay it out there and call it like it is; and rip Chris Wallace a new you-know-what.

Mark Satin is the editor of Radical Middle, an online political journal with an editorial direction which balances sensibility and radical change. Mark has written a pretty cutting review of David Korten's The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community. Read the full review here

cel phone blues

Written by lincolnposte

People would point and laugh. Children would start crying. Dates would quietly excuse themselves to the restroom, never to return -- after catching a glimpse of my nearly 5 inch x 2 inch, slightly beaten up QUALCOM 2762 cel phone. Purchased in 1999, and the height of technology at the time, this green-screen dot-matrix beauty has served me like a loyal friend. Only after a glorious tour of duty in excess of six years, did the battery finally start to go, and let me tell you, it was hard to acknowledge the deteriorating health of my beloved QUALCOM 2762. Finally (but what felt suddenly) in May this year, I looked down to my friend to make a call to find out where the hell my ultimate frisbee game was being played, and read the words 'Service Required' on the green, dot-matrix display. As a single tear emerged from the welling pool in my eyes, I felt gratitude toward the skilled makers of my QUALCOM 2762 for their thoughtfulness. "When the time comes", I imagined them having said, "let's make it gentle". Service Required. I pulled the car over and stared at it for a few moments, late for my game, but feeling the need to be with these feelings of sadness, regret for not having better prepared (though you can never really be prepared), and also.. Fear.

Timing is something

Try out Change Everything

Just noticing a few posts on here about getting up earlier. I notice even if I do wake up early (I'm pretty content calling anything before 8am 'early'), I feel a little out of it - like, "what the hell am I gonna do now? Dear 7:16am, I am a stranger to your world." It's led me to consider changing how I regard the time-of-day altogether.
