At least eight more weeks of dancing...
Last week, I took the plunge...
After taking four ballroom dancing lessons, I decided to throw caution to the wind and take eight more private and group dance lessons (with the pros) before downgrading my practice to the community centre. It's actually quite pricey, but I'd love to learn how to do it right before hanging up the shoes. I'll be working on the six main dances - foxtrot, tango, swing, rumba, waltz and cha-cha. It's pretty fun.
And speaking of shoes...I'm not going to invest in dancing shoes, I don't think. They're ridiculously expensive and not necessary unless you're really serious about your dancing.
Shockingly, my dancing instructors have been telling me I'm good at being lead by a man. Who knew it was even possible....

The fact of the matter is,
The fact of the matter is, ballroom dancing is expensive. Really expensive. The problem with a lot of good-for-you hobbies (Pilates, ballroom dancing) these days is that they cost a lot of money and require dedication - because you need to make sure that you get every dime's worth. In fact, those looking for "hobbies" should reconsider. These pursuits are not for the light of wallet. I wish I was born in a time where dancing was de rigeur for all young people and I didn't have to pay $125 a lesson to learn.
I'm sure there's dance programs out there that are free of charge, but it would be refreshing to earn all my levels of ballroom dancing for a more reasonable price - after all, my instructors deserve to earn a living - and which didn't require me to dance at least three nights a week. I mean I love it, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing - I need time for all the other things I love to do, too. They do have afternoon dances at my local community centre, but to be honest, these are seniors dances, and I'd love to be able to dance with people closer to my own age.
Having said that, I want to try it again and am going to check out a new studio closer to where I live. I hope I remember my cha-cha when I finally make it there. Will post when and if I take it up again. By the way, changeeverything looks great.
