Inspired Business #3
Monday, February 5 I hosted the second meeting for our Inspired Business meeting. Our membership increased by one and we began the meeting with a reminder for us all by each member stating their reason for participating in the group. The responses included
- to build community
- to make a difference
- to live life more authentically in the business arena
- to be inspired and supported in business
- to help each other succeed
Prior to the meeting I had given much thought to what must happen to keep building upon the momentum of our intention - the reason for this group's being. Having already communicated the principle Success Breeds Success in the initial communication and meeting, sinking this principle in our group dynamic in order to build on the momentum took priority.
After the initial introductions and reminders from everyone's reason for being there, the question was posed:
How does helping someone else succeed help you to succeed?
Giving everyone a few minutes to jot down their ideas, the round-table brought out a variety of responses, all of which touched upon similar themes. A favorite was "in serving others a man discovers the gift within." This idea, with more explanation than the statement alone, touched very closely upon the benefit of this principle.
Often we experience a take-take-take reality in our business and consumer culture. Many people find their values and integrity compromised in the corporate world trying to meet shareholder and consumer expectations in such a competitive environment. These are some of the reasons these members attend this group. This opening round-table opened the door wide to re-focus ourselves on values we all share.
- We are here to serve humanity.
- Business is here to serve people - not people to serve business.
To elaborate further on this, we all recognize that we work to live quite often. The things that really matter to most of us are our friends and family. We must work to earn a living and we seek work that will offer fulfillment of our values, expertise, and creativity. Too often, people settle or swallow the bitter pill of sour jobs just to make ends meet. This results in a lot of wounded psyches in the workforce, and the mental health statistics are there to prove it.
Success breeds success touches upon the principle that in giving aid to another, many things occur.
- Healing of old wounds come about through helping others.
- Helping someone else succeed brings us joy.
- Helping someone else succeed sees a return on our investment of time, talent, and emotions.
- We discover our own growth is catapulted when teaching or mentoring others.
- and so much more.
Next week, we will be meeting again, Monday morning, and having been inspired by the results of our last two meetings, another added member, we're all looking forward to continuing this journey together.
We're still looking to add more members of like-minded, creative, and spiritually or socially minded people. If anyone is interested, please feel free to contact me for a chat and question and answer dialogue.
We're real people looking to be real with each other in our business too!
Best wishes, Lee
