sub zero clothing drive

I read i
n the paper this morning that Vancouver is expecting -17 degree temperatures by Sunday. That is frickin cold. Especially if you live outside - as over 2500 people in Vancouver do.
A couple of years ago when Vancouver had a cold snap, we as a community used ChangeEverything to organize ourselves to do a clothing drive. The results were significant. In 48 hours we had collected over 4000 items of warmth for local shelters. Given that temperatures are so low (and plummeting more this week) I thought it was a perfect time to awaken the "Got Hats?" concept.
So here it is.. via ChangeEverything it will super duper easy for us to connect with each other to make meaningful, potentially life-saving action today and through this week for the men and women in Vancouver living on the currently very cold streets of our city.
And when I say easy, I mean EASY! I will come to your house or work and pick up your 'items of warmth' sleeping bags, sweaters, gloves, socks, shoes, slippers, sheets or any other warm things you have lying around the house that you've been meaning to get rid of or find a better use for, and I'll bring 'em to local shelters where they are most needed.
So here is your homework
Step 1: have a look around your house and find some items of warmth that you no longer need. This could be a sweater, blanket, sleeping bag, coat, gloves, hat, scarf, pants, boots, shoes, slippers, bathrobes - anything you can think of that could be used to keep someone warm.
Step 2: add a comment under this post letting me know what part of town you are in and what you have to donate (make sure you are logged into the site so you don't have to publish personal contact details, that way I can contact you through the site)
Step 3: forward this message to everyone you know in Vancouver.
Step 4: wait for me to contact you to organize a time for me to come by in PechaKucha, The Delica of Love (see picture) to pick up your warm things.

Hi Andrea, I left a phone
Hi Andrea,
I left a phone message for you, Friday, Dec. 19, about 5 pm, about your offer to donate to the clothing drive. Is there any possibility you could get the items to your location on 4th Ave. in Vancouver? I could pick them up there and get them to Van City. I'll be writing Kate as well to see about other options. In the meantime, thanks so much for offering. It is inspiring to be part of a larger movement to help out in hard, cold times.
Regards,
Jill Schroder

Shane,
We'll be doing a collection this year for sure. But not for a few weeks. If you are able to get down to Heatley Street - drop it off at Triage. They could always use the clothing - and it will go right from your hands onto the back of someone living in the DTES. message me if you need more info.
