music night!
I did it! I went to my first violin lesson tonight. My teacher was thrilled with the way my hand seemed familiar with the bow, she told me I am a natural, which of course thrilled me to no end. Now I just have to get past the thing that always seems to snag me - practice. I just have to set aside some time each day to practice, which I am committing here, right now, to do. Ohhhhhhh, I am so excited to play it!
Right after my lesson I went straight over to Songrise with Laurel Murphy at the Roundhouse for some improvisational singing. It was a lot of fun. I have a hard time letting my voice out past all of my insecurities and self-consciousness. It was fun to close my eyes and just let sounds out, only to find that when a room of people does that together the tendency is toward harmony, naturally without a lot of effort. In fact, effort just seems to get in the way. The style of music improv we did was based on Bobby McFerrin. It was good for the soul, and so much fun to find out what sounds the body wants to make! I asked laurel, the conductor of the evening to submit some articles for the learn how section, so I'll keep you up to date with what happens on that front, too.

Good for you Kate! My
Good for you Kate! My mother plays piano and I at one time tried to learn but found that I had no patience for practicing; I wanted to be Mozart right away!
Stick to those lessons, I wish I could play an instrument and I have always envied those who could!
