Make my home energy efficient

I have been meaning to make my home energy efficient for some time now. I simply have not known where to start. I just found out that the Federal Government recently stopped supporting the EnerGuide for Houses Program which was a program that gave people energy assessments to find out where their homes were not being efficient. Then I learned that Vancouver residents are still eligible for thousands of dollars in provincial and utility grants for improving their home energy efficiency! So I just signed up for a home assessment. I am so excited to have someone come over and tell me exactly where I can make some changes! If you want to check it out visit this site and register for your free home assessment before funding for this program runs out.

Hi Kate, Have you checked

Written by brian

Hi Kate,

Have you checked out CBC's six-part TV special, Code Green?  I saw the TV series, and it shows how ordinary Canadians can do to reduce energy consumption in their home.  As a "reality" game show, each episode has two families using a limited budget to improve their homes to save energy.  The limited budget forces them to consider trade-offs.  Should they install low-flush toilets or spend the money on energy efficient faucets?

At the end of each episode, the families' home renovations are evaluated to see who has gained the greatest reduction in energy, water consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions.

I find that some of the renovations really pay off in reducing consumption, while others do not make a dent at all.

Hope that this helps.  Good luck on your quest to improve the energy efficiency of your home!

Brian, I love that this is

Brian,

I love that this is what is making it into reality TV these days! I am not much of a tv watcher, so it is unlikely that I will see this show.  I am doing some research of my own into this, and I will share what I come up with on this site, soon!

The simplest and cheapest

Written by davebert22

The simplest and cheapest thing you can do is seal all the drafts around your windows and doors. It takes some time but it really works. And in my case significantly reduced outside road noise as well. Host a "housewarming" party and get your friends to help out.
